Tips for Choosing a Front Entry Door

You probably already know that your choice of door is an important one. While your budget will be an important factor in determining which one you choose, you should also keep such things as durability, hardware, and safety in mind as well. Every door will have its own pros and cons, as well as its own kind of hardware to consider.

There is probably more than one way to enter your home, but this door is usually in the front and center of your home. While some homes will only have one entry door, most will also have alternative ways of entering including the garage door and a door in the back yard.

While you will have many different options when it comes to purchasing it the three main materials used to make exterior doors these days are wood, steel, and fiberglass composite. The type of material you choose will depend on your particular application as well as your budget.

One choice you will need to make when selecting it is whether you want it to be flush or paneled. Paneled doors will have rectangular panels within rails and styles while flush doors will be smooth on both sides. Wood doors originally included panels in order to allow for the expansion and contraction of the wood during changes in weather. Some doors these days will include windows in place of some of the panels called doorlites.

You will also need to decide whether your front door will open to the right or to the left. If the door opens toward you and has a knob on the left it is considered a left handed door. A right handed door will open toward you with the handle on the right.
